For the first time in a FINAL FANTASY game, the player has the ability to capture monsters for use in future battles. Each monster has a specific role to play in combat, and there are more than 150 to collect, each with their own special attacks. As with the main party members, monsters can be developed and leveled up.

  6. HerSpooness

    it's FF meets Pokemon

  7. Adam Giess

They kinda already did this in Dragon Quest 19 years ago. Also I've never thought of FF monster having as much "personality" as DQ monsters. The bosses yes, but other than Tonberry and Chocobos I don't even remember very many of the common enemies. But I'm nitpicking. I really have no idea how it will play out.

I think, the idea to tame monsters to make them part of the party is really good. And I also think, I know where Tetsuya got it from: In the game "Spectrobes", which was also developed by Square Enix, you can do exactely the same. It´s a little similar to Pokémon, you know. And I always liked the idea to get supported by the monsters.
